 Monday, February 06, 2012

State Member for Shepparton, Jeanette Powell is encouraging sporting clubs and organisations throughout the Shepparton District to apply for funding through the 2012 Country Action Grant Scheme.

Mrs Powell said the Country Action Grant Scheme provides grants of up to $5000 to community sport and recreation organisations in rural and regional Victoria.

“The grants are aimed at increasing the skills of coaches, officials and managers and to improving accessibility and the operational capacity clubs,” Mrs Powell said.

“Projects can be as diverse as: creating a business plan or website, developing policy and procedure manuals, attending courses or workshops, or even hosting a social session to encourage new members.”

Priorities will be given to projects involving people with a disability, women, indigenous people, school aged children, culturally and linguistically diverse people and older adults, including: promotional materials such as Koori-specific club information fliers or information in other languages, partnerships between local sports clubs and health centres or Access for All Abilities providers to offer programs to people of all abilities, morning sessions of sport or active recreation activity for older adults or young mothers.

Application forms are available from Mrs Powell’s electorate office at 5 Vaughan Street, Shepparton ph 58316944, online at www.grants.dpcd.vic.gov.au or by phoning the DPCD grants information line on 1300 366 356.
